About Sotei Matcha

Our Story

Sotei began with a simple goal: to create the perfect matcha latte.

We spent over a year tasting matcha from across Japan, working with farmers and suppliers in Uji, and experimenting with different cultivars, blends, and recipes. Along the way, we discovered that creating an exceptional matcha latte isn’t just about using “premium” matcha—it’s about finding the right balance of flavor, milk, and preparation.

Why We Chose Uji

Uji, Kyoto is widely regarded as the birthplace of Japanese matcha and home to some of Japan’s most respected tea producers. We source our matcha directly from Uji and focus on powders that not only taste excellent on their own, but also shine in lattes.

More Than a Café

Located in Shibuya, Tokyo, Sotei is both a matcha café and an online shop. In addition to our matcha powders, we offer traditional accessories, bamboo whisks, and our signature matcha stencils designed to help people create beautiful matcha drinks at home.
